On May 26, the second phase of the "sustainable growth - hard science and technology theme series activities" jointly initiated by APEC China Youth Development Committee and member enterprises' nutshell hard science and technology was successfully held. A number of field experts, principals of start-ups, investors and other speakers exchanged views on emerging technology synthetic biology.

As a multi-disciplinary science, synthetic biology includes extensive redefinition and expansion of biotechnology. The "flag" of food, medicine, agriculture, energy, chemical industry, consumption... Synthetic biology has been inserted into many fields of our daily life. In May this year, the national development and Reform Commission issued the "14th five year plan" for bioeconomy development, which mentioned synthetic biology in many places. Before that, in 2021, the overall financing scale of the synthetic biology industry had reached 100 billion. Whether from the policy or market side, it fully reflects the support and confidence for the technology and industrial development potential.

Jiang Li, executive secretary of APEC China Business Council and executive member of APEC China Youth Commission, made an opening speech. After that, the guests gave a comprehensive introduction to the technological progress and industrial application of synthetic biology, and discussed some of the problems faced by synthetic biology in the huge development boom, including how to select product categories for start-ups, as well as the value of synthetic biology compared with traditional means.
