APEC China CEO Forum: China will continue accelerating digital transformation
2021/12/26

This year's APEC China CEO Forum is taking place in Beijing. Officials, business leaders, and experts are brought together to offer a path to achieve sustainable growth in a world rocked by the pandemic. Huang Yichang reports.

2021 marks the 30th anniversary of China's participation in APEC. This APEC China CEO forum, on the theme of "sustainable growth", is designed to ensure the business community and closely involved in making economic and trade rules in the Asia-Pacific.

SUN XIAO Director General, Multilateral Cooperation Department, China Chamber of International Commerce "Over the past three decades, China's business sectors have turned from 'buying tickets to see the play' to 'performing on the stage' after integrating into APEC. But as they participated in more and more international trade, they found that their business could be a failure even though they produced the best product. The business leaders now realize that they should make good products and also actively participate in creating economic and trade rules to increase their influence on the international stage."

HUANG YICHANG Beijing "Here at the forum there has been a lot of discussion on making a push towards a more digitized economy. There's reason to believe this is the future, as during the COVID-19 era the economy has kept moving forward thanks to e-commerce and online sales just one small element of the digital economy as a whole. The belief is that more opportunities will arise from digitization in the Asia-Pacific region."

Delegates at the forum say China will continue accelerating this digital transformation.

XU KEMIN Chief Economist, Chinese Ministry of Industry & Information Technology "Major countries in the world, including the Asia Pacific Region, are calling for full use of the opportunities brought by digitization and new technological innovation to promote digital technology in manufacturing. Digital transformation needs to play a vital role in boosting the substantial economy and enhancing the resilience of enterprises."
